Delicious and Authentic Pottukadalai Laddu

பொட்டுக்கடலை லட்டு – Pottukadalai Laddu

Pottukadalai Laddu is most commonly known as Maa Laddu or Maavu laddu and pori kadalai urundai. It is made by pottukadalai/ roasted chana dal, sugar and ghee. It is an instant sweet. We can make it within 10 to 15 minutes. This is a beginners and bachelor friendly recipe.

Ingredients for Pottukadalai laddu

Roasted chana dal – 1 cup
Brown sugar – 3/4 cup
Ghee – 1/4 cup
Salt a pinch
Cardamom – 3
Cashews – 2 tbs (cut into small pieces)
Dry grapes – 1 tbs

Directions

Grind the brown sugar in a blender.
Also grind the fried chana dal and cardamom into fine powder in blender. 
Add the ground sugar and dal into a mixing bowl..
 Mix everything well together.
Heat the ghee in a pan in medium flame. 
Add the cashews and fry until it changes to golden brown. 
Now add the dry grapes and fry until it becomes big as balloons.
Stop the flame and add this to flour mixture. 
Mix everything with the spatula first.
When we handle the heat, use your hand to mix well.
Make the dough into small balls like in the picture (don’t add water).
Let it sit for 30 minutes or until dry to avoid losing the shape.
Pottukadalai urundai laddoo ready.

Notes

If you’re a beginner, avoid nuts in this recipe. it is hard to make shapes with nuts.
We have to give more pressure to shape the dough into small balls.
You may use white sugar or jaggery for this recipe as well. 
Also you may use whatever nuts you want.
