Sodhi Kulambu

சொதி குழம்பு (Sodhi Kulambu)

Sodhi Kulambu also known as Sodhi is very famous dish in Tirunelveli District in Tamilnadu. During wedding this sodhi kuzhambu, Ginger chutney, potato poriyal and papad will be served in Tirunelveli side. After marriage they specially prepare a feast with this vegetable stew for new married groom called “mappillai sodhi”. This side dish is very healthy one, this will go well with rice, idyappam and Appam

Ingredients for Sodhi Kulambu

Moong dal – 1/4 cup
Cabbage – 1/4 cup (chopped)
Carrot – 1 (cut lengthwise)
Peas – 1/4 cup
Beans – 1/4 cup (chopped)
Ginger garlic paste – 1/2 tbs
Tomato  – 1 
Cumin seeds – 1 tsp (crushed)
Green chilli – 2
Chilli powder – 1 tsp
Onion – 1 small (lengthwise)
Turmeric powder – 1/4 tsp 
Coconut milk – 1 cup thick + 1 cup thin
Potato – 1
Drumstick – 1 (optional)
Curry leaves – 1 spring 
Cilantro – 1 tbs
Coconut oil – 1 tbs
Hing – 1/4 tsp
Salt as needed 

Directions

Soak moong dal for 30 minutes. 
Take a wide pan and add rinsed moong dal. 
Pour enough water to the dal and half cook the dal.
When dal half cooked, add all the veggies (cabbage, carrot, peas, beans, potato, onion, tomato, green chilli).
Add all the spices (turmeric powder, hing, crushed cumin, ginger garlic paste, chilli powder and salt).
Pour the thin coconut milk and coconut oil then cook the veggies. 
When the veggies cooked completely add cilantro, curry leaves and thick coconut milk. 
Stir well and switch off the flame when started to bubble.
Sothi kuzhambu ready.
Serve vegan stew with idyappam or rice.

Notes

You may add some more different veggies to this மாப்பிள்ளை சொதி recipe.
