சென்னா சாட் – Channa Chaat
Channa chaat is a popular Indian street food snack. Cooked chickpeas are tossed with fresh cut onions, tomatoes and various of spices and chutneys. It’s known for its tangy, spicy and slightly sweet flavour profile. My family loves this chaat very much, it’s great filling and healthy evening snack.
Ingredients for Channa Chaat
Channa/ chick peas – 1 cup
Onion – 1 cup
Tomato – 1
Mango – 1/2 cup (chopped)
Carrot – 1/2 cup (shredded)
Cucumber – 1/2 cup (chopped)
Mixer – 1/2 cup
Tamarind chutney – 2 tbs
Green chutney – 2 tbs
Lemon – 1/2
Cilantro for garnish
Salt as needed
Directions
Pre-preparation
Soak the chickpeas for about 8 hrs or overnight.
Rinse the chickpeas and add salt, water then pressure cook for 15 minutes.
Prepare Chat
Drain the water from the cooked chickpeas.
Add the cooked chickpeas into a mixing bowl.
Also add all the veggies (onion, tomato, mango, cucumber, carrot).
Toss everything well until well mixed.
Add the spices (green chutney, tamarind chutney, salt).
Mix everything together.
Finally add the mixer and cilantro.
Also squeeze the lemon juice as well.
Give a final toss.
Channa chaat ready.
Serve that in a bowl.
Notes
There are some variations like using Kala Channa, yogurt.
I usually take the seeds out of tomato before chopping it.
