வெங்காய ரவை தோசை (Onion Rava Dosa)

Onion rava dosa is my sister’s favourite dish. Whenever I go to restaurant with my family in childhood days, she always order this dosa. I asked her to change the option at least one time but she never changes. That much she is addicted to this dosa. Nowadays my kids also like this vengaya ravai dosai. I prepare this dosa once a week for them. They demand variety of chutney for this ஆனியன் ரவை தோசை.

Ingredients for Onion Rava Dosa

Rava/ sooji – 1 cup
Rice flour – 1 cup
Maida / All purpose flour – 1/2 cup
Salt as needed 

Tempering Ingredients

Onion – 1 (finely chopped)
Mustard seeds& urad dal – 1 tsp 
Cumin seeds – 1 tsp
Pepper – 2 tsp
Green chilli – 3 (chopped)
Ginger – 1/2 tbs (chopped)
Curry leaves – 1 spring 
Cilantro – 1 tbs (chopped)
Oil – 1 tsp

Directions

Add rava, rice flour, Maida and salt in a mixing bowl. 
Pour little bit of water and mix well.
Keep the batter for 15 minutes. 
Heat oil in a small pan and add mustard seeds & urad dal. 
Add cumin seeds, pepper, green chilli, ginger pieces, curry leaves. 
Now add chopped onion and sauté until the color changes into golden brown. 
Add the tempered ingredients into the batter and also add chopped cilantro. 
Mix well and make the batter consistency very thin.
Heat dosa pan and pour one ladle of batter around the pan.
Pour oil around the dosa, drizzle some ghee on the dosa (optional).
Turn the dosa into other side when the color changes. 
Take out the dosa when it’s done.
Serve the ரவா தோசை with sambar and variety of chutney. 

Notes

If pouring the batter with ladle is hard, take small bowl and pour the batter around the pan. That’s more easier for beginners.
You may add some cashews to the tempering ingredients. 
This dosa is a crispy version if you want soft dosa, add more amount of Maida flour.
You can use wheat flour alternately for Maida.
