கேப்பை சேமியா உப்புமா (Ragi Sevai)
Ragi Sevai recipe is very simple to make and I got this from my mother-in-law. Ragi is also a rich source of fiber and helps lower cholesterol level. Keppai is one of the best food for weight control, diabetes and a cooling agent for the body. Some ragi recipes you can try include — dosa, vermicili, kanji, malt, ragiballs, roti. With its cost-effectiveness, ragi is definitely a health food for everyone.
Ingredients for Ragi Sevai
Keppai Semiya / Ragi vermicelli – 4 cups
Small onion – 1/4 cup chopped
Curry leaves – 1 spring
Dry red chilli – 5
Oil – 2 tbsp
Mustard seeds & urad dal – 1/4 tsp
Salt as needed
Directions
Soak the keppai Semiya in salt water for 5 minutes
Take a wide pan with oil.
Add mustard seeds & urad dal; after the seeds cracked, add curry leaves.
After curry leaves pops, add chopped onion, dry red chilli and sauté for a minute.
Drizzle little bit of salt for onion.
Drain water from the soaked ragi vermicelli.
Spread the soaked vermicelli in the pan and turn the flame into low.
Close the pan with lid and cook for 5 minutes
Gently stir the Semiya bottom to top and close again then cook for another 5 minutes.
Now open the pan and stir for 2 minutes.
Keppai Semiya Upma is ready.
Serve this with sambar and coconut chutney.
Notes
Cook this Semiya in wide pan with low flame, otherwise the Semiya will break
