மட்டன் வறுவல் (Mutton Varuval – Easy version)

Mutton Varuval is an easy to make dry gravy that goes well with rice and rasam. This varuval can be a side dish for chicken biriyani or even dosa as well.

Ingredients for Mutton Varuval

Mutton – 1/2 kg (Boneless)
Small onion – 15 chopped
Ginger – 1 big piece
Masala – 1 tbsp
Chilli powder – 1 tbsp
Oil – 2 tbsp
Salt as needed

Directions

Clean the mutton properly and chop into small pieces.
Take a pressure cooker and add oil.
After oil get hot, add chopped onion and crushed ginger.
Fry the mix until the onion turns golden color.
Now add the mutton, masala, chilli powder, salt and stir well.
Cover the cooker (no whistle) and change the flame into low.
Allow the curry to release oil for 5-10 minutes.
Add one and half cup of water to the curry and pressure cook it in medium flame for 20 to 25 minutes.
Check whether the mutton completely cooked or not.
Again cover the curry (no whistle) and cook in very low flame until the gravy thicken & release more oil.
Mutton gravy ready, serve this with rice.

Notes

For best results use sesame oil for cooking.
You can replace the small onion with 1 big onion.
