கோலா உருண்டை (Mutton Kola Urundai)

Kola urundai / கோலா உருண்டை / meat ball using goat meat is very easy to make at home. I have provided simple to follow, step by step instructions for making கோலா உருண்டை with supporting pictures.

Kola urundai is very special in South Tamilnadu and I have liked it most in Madurai Arulandam hotel and Courtallam Pandian Mess. I tried my best to bring the same taste. Hope you all enjoy this Kola urundai recipe.

Ingredients

Ground Mutton (Goat meat) – 1/2 kg

Spices to Grind

Fennel seeds – 1 tsp
Cinnamon – small piece
Cloves – 2
Cardamom – 2
Ginger – half thumb size
Garlic cloves – 2
Green chillies – 2

Other Ingredients

Onion – 1/2 (chopped)
Chilli powder – 1 tsp (optional)
Cilantro- 1 tbs
Turmeric- 1/4 tsp
Split Channa dal powder (porikadalai maavu) – 4 tbsp
Oil for frying
Salt as needed

Directions

Ground Masala

Take fennel seeds, cinnamon, cloves, cardamom and dry roast in a pan.
Transfer that to a blender and dry roast the ginger and garlic little bit.
Add ginger, garlic and chopped green chilli in the blender then grind it well.
Masala ready.

Cooking Mutton

Take a pan and add the ground mutton and start cooking.
Add chilli powder, turmeric, ground spice and salt.
Mix well and cook the meat in high flame until color changes.
Now fat releasing from the mutton, if large amount of liquid comes drain it.
Let the cooked ground mutton to cool down.

Grind other Ingredients

Take food processor or mixer then add cilantro and onion.
Start the processor and blend it for a minute.
Now add the cooked ground mutton and blend it.
Meat is now ready.

Preparing kola urundai

Transfer the meat mix to a bowl and add split channa dal powder.
Knead the mix well and make small balls.
Heat oil in a frying pan (keep the oil in medium flame otherwise mutton will not cook evenly).
Fry the kola urundai batch by batch.
Kola urundai ready.
