வெண்பொங்கல் Venpongal (Pressure cooker method)
Venpongal / வெண்பொங்கல் can be easily made in a pressure cooker without much effort. Just follow the simple instructions with supporting pictures given and you will get tasty venpongal in 20 minutes.
Ingredients for Venpongal
Raw rice – 1 cup
Moong dal – 1/4 cup
Black pepper – 2 tsp
Cumin seeds – 2 tsp
Ginger – 4 small pieces
Ghee – 2 tbs
Cashew nuts – 2 tbs
Curry leaves – 1 spring
Directions
Take a pressure cooker and pour the ghee.
After the ghee gets warm, fry cashews in medium flame
Then add black pepper, cumin seeds, ginger and curry leaves.
Stir fry well for one minute.
Add 3 cups of water and salt as needed and let the water boil.
Wash the moong dal and rice in a mixing bowl.
When you see bubbles in the water add the washed dal and rice to the cooker.
Close the cooker with lid and wait for steam to come up.
Put on the weight and turn the flame to low medium.
Pressure cook the ven pongal for one whistle.
Switch off the flame and wait until the pressure releases.
Open the lid and stir the pongal thoroughly.
Serve ven pongal with sambar, chutney and vada.
Notes
If water comes out during the whistle turn the flame to low and wait for another whistle without liquid coming out and switch off the flame.

Add black pepper 
Put cumin seeds

Add rice and dal 
Close the lid and pressure cook for one whistle in low-medium flame 
Rice is cooked well 
Give a good mix 
VenPongal ready 
Serve venpongal with vada, chutney and sambar
