வெண் பொங்கல் (Traditional Ven Pongal)
Ven pongal / வெண்பொங்கல் is one of the dish made during Thai Pongal. This pongal is made using freshly harvested raw rice to offer to Sun (Nature God). It can be easily made in a pressure cooker as well without much effort. But making it in traditional way gives best taste. Follow the simple instructions with supporting pictures given and you will get tasty venpongal.
Ingredients for Ven Pongal
Raw rice – 1 cup
Moong dal – 1/4 cup
Pepper – 2 tsp
Cumin seeds – 2 tsp
Ginger – 4 small pieces
Ghee – 2 tbs
Cashew nuts – 2 tbs
Curry leaves – 1 spring
Directions
Take a pot with 3/4th level of water.
Let the water boil in high flame until you see bubbles.
In a bowl take rice & moong dal and wash it.
Add the rice & dal mixture to the boiling water.
Also add salt and cook venpongal in medium flame.
Check the rice whether you can mash that completely.
After the rice fully cooked, drain the water from the pot.
Take a sauce pan and pour ghee.
Add pepper, cumin seeds, ginger pieces, curry leaves, cashew nuts.
Saute them until golden color.
Pour this mixer into the venpongal.
Mix everything well.
Ven Pongal is ready.
Serve ven pongal with sambar, coconut chutney & vadai
