Vazhakkai Varuval is an easy side dish that can be made in very less time. Valaikkai has so much health benefits and kids will also like this recipe because this looks more like chips but not crispy.

Ingredients for Vazhakkai Varuval

Vazhakkai – 2 nos
Green chilli – 3 nos
Small onion – 3 nos
Curry leaves – one spring
Mustard seeds, urad dal
Salt as needed

Directions

Remove the skin of the valakkai and slice it.
Immerse sliced vazhakkai in salt water for 30 minutes.
Take a wide pan, add little bit of oil and mustard seeds, urad dal.
After mustard cracks, add curry leaves, small onion, green chilli and salt.
Add Valaikkai after onion turns golden brown and mix everything.
Cover the pan and cook in medium flame for about 5 minutes.
Stir occasionally in low flame until it becomes crispy.
Switch of the flame, Valakkai varuval is ready.

Notes

Soaking plantain in salt water gives very good flavor. Do not use too much salt as it will spoil the taste.
Keep the flame low, so that valaikkai won’t be burnt. You can also little crispy.
