வாழைப்பூ வடை – Valaipoo Vadai
Valaipoo vadai is a healthy snack. Valaipoo is a great source of dietary fiber that are beneficial for the human body. Besides it also contains vitamins A, E and C. The potassium in it help reduce blood pressure. It also controls mensural blood flow. One another benefit is that it helps to get rid of morning sickness for pregnant ladies.
Ingredients for Valaipoo Vadai
Banana flower – 1 cup
Channa dal – 1 cup
Fennel seeds – 1/2 tsp
Dry red chilli – 4
Curry leaves – 1 spring
Hing – 1/2 tsp
Onion – 1/2 cup (finely chopped)
Salt as needed
Oil for frying
Directions
Pre-preparation
Soak the dal, dry chilli, fennel seeds, curry leaves for at least 4 hrs.
Clean Banana Flower
Remove outer 3 layers florets.
Separate thin florets and thick florets.
You have to take out the pistil (central stem) from the thick florets.
After about half is done, thin florets comes and you can use it directly.
Grinding dal
Drain the water completely.
Add the soaked dal in mixie jar and grind the dal coarsely.
Sprinkle little bit of water as needed, salt, hing and grind.
Add the cleaned thin banana florets and give a little pulse.
Transfer the ground dal into a mixing bowl.
Add the cleaned thick florets and chopped onion to the mixing bowl.
Mix everything well.
Frying
Heat oil in a frying pan and keep the flame medium.
Take a small ball of dough and flatten it in palm then put it in the oil.
When color changes, turn the Vada and cook.
Take out the Vada when done.
Serve the Vada as snack with chutney and tea.
Notes
I use the thick banana florets directly into the ground dal.
You may chop the thick banana florets and mix it with dal as well.
