Shrimp Curry

இறால் தொக்கு (Eral Thokku/ Shrimp Curry)

Ingredients

Shrimp – 350 gm (frozen)
Small onion – 1 cup chopped
Ginger – 1 inch piece
Garlic – 5 cloves
Tomato – 2
Turmeric – pinch
Masala – 1 1/2 tbsp
Chilli powder – 1 tbsp
Pepper powder – 1 tsp
Cumin powder – 1 tsp
Oil – 3 tbsp
Salt as needed

Directions

Take the shrimp in a bowl then pour some hot water
Leave the shrimp for 10 minutes then wash it thoroughly
Add a pinch of turmeric and set aside for another 10 minutes
Peal the skin of ginger and garlic and make ginger garlic paste
In the meantime take a pan and add oil
Now add the chopped onion and ginger garlic paste
Stir the onion until it turns into golden color
Now add the chopped tomato and stir for a while
Then add masala, chilli powder, cumin powder, pepper powder, turmeric powder and salt
Give a good mix, drain the turmeric water from the shrimp
Add the shrimp to pan, then close the lid and keep in low flame for 5-10 minutes
Now you see the oil coming out from the curry
Change the flame to full and add 1/2 cup of water
Cook for another 10 minutes
Keep stirring this time to avoid the curry stick in the bottom
Again close the lid and keep the flame low for another 5 minutes
Eral / Iral / Prawn / Shrimp Curry is ready

Notes

You can also use fresh shrimp and skip the first step
Use sesame oil for best results
