சாம்பார் சாதம் (Sambar Rice)
Sambar Rice / சாம்பார் சாதம் made traditionally from scratch tastes really best and here is the recipe for sambar satham / bisibelabath.
Ingredients for Sambar Rice
For Sambar Masala
Round red chilli – 4
Pepper – 1/2 tbs
Cumin seeds – 1/2 tbs
Toor dal – 1 tbs
Coriander seeds – 3/4 tbs
Mustard seeds – little
Fenugreek seeds – 4
Coconut – 2 tbs shredded
For Sambar
Toor Dal – 1/2 cup
Onion – 1/2 chopped
Tomato – 1
Carrot – 1
Beans – 1/4 cup chopped
Peas – 1/4 cup
Tamarind – small lemon size
Oil – 1 tbs
Ghee- 1 tbs
Cashews – 1 tbs
Curry leaves – 1 spring
Red chilli – 2
Mustard & urad dal – 1/4 tsp
Salt as needed
Other Ingredients
Rice – 1/2 cup
Pre-preparation
Cook rice and Toor dal separately
Directions
Dry roast the sambar masala items and let it cool for some time.
Grind the masala into fine paste.
Take a big pan with ghee and roast the cashews.
Add oil, mustard seeds, urad dal.
After the seeds cracked, add curry leaves and onion.
Stir that until golden brown.
Now add tomatoes and stir that until mushy.
Add the ground masala and all the vegetables then mix thoroughly.
Pour the tamarind pulp, salt and water.
Allow the mixer to boil until the vegetables cook.
Now combine the vegetable mixer, rice, dal in a pressure cooker.
Add 1/2 cup of water and pressure cook the rice for one whistle.
Sambar satham ready.
Notes
If you are using dried peas, soak overnight and cook separately then add to the recipe.
