உருளைக்கிழங்கு சிப்ஸ் (Potato Chips)
Potato chips is an easy to prepare snack and also kids favorite. This is also one of the best side dish for variety rice. Choosing potato is an important step for making chips.
Like every kid, my kids wish to buy chips from shops every week. Since it is not healthy and to avoid buying foods outside and I started to prepare in home. Nowadays we completely stopped buying chips from shops.
Ingredients for Potato Chips
Russet potato – 1 big
Alum – 1/4 tsp
For seasoning
Chilli powder – 1/4 tsp
Salt as needed
Directions
Peel the skin off the potato.
Slice the potato in shredder into thin round shape.
Add the potato slices in a mixing bowl.
Now add alum and pour enough water to immerse.
Let the chips soak in the alum water for 5 minutes.
Drain the water and dry the potato slices in paper towel or cotton cloth.
Heat oil in a frying pan.
Put the dried potato slices in the hot oil with medium flame.
Fry that until crispy and place them in a paper towel.
Transfer them into a mixing bowl.
Drizzle salt and chili powder.
Toss the chips until well mixed.
Spicy potato chips ready.
Serve the chips with tamarind rice or as a snack.
Notes
Alum is the main ingredient for crispiness; if you don’t want to use that, just rinse the potato slices in water then dry it.
You may seasoning this chips with chaat masala as well.
