Peas Poriyal

பட்டாணி பொறியல் (Peas Poriyal)

Peas Poriyal is one of the famous side dish in marriage function lunch. The taste differs based on the cooking method. It can be cooked with coconut milk or ground coconut. Here I used coconut milk. It is easy to prepare and tastes good as well.

Ingredients for Peas Poriyal

Dried peas – 100grm
Coconut – 1 big piece
Masala – 1/2 tbsp
Chilli powder – 1/2 tbsp
Turmeric powder – Small pinch
Fennel seeds (Sombu) – 1/2 tsp
Cinnamon (Pattai) – very small piece
Salt as needed

For Tempering

Small onion – 2 Finely chopped
Mustard seeds and Urad dal – 1/4 tsp
Curry leaves – 1 spring
oil – 1/2 tbsp

Directions

Soak the peas overnight.
Boil the peas in water with salt until you can smash the peas with your finger.
Take the coconut, Sombu, Cinnamon in a blender and grind well then extract milk from the mix.
Take a pan and add tempering spices; Add coconut milk, masala, chilli powder, turmeric powder and salt.
After you see the bubbles, add the cooked peas.
Close the pan with lid and cook in a medium heat for 5 minutes.
Stir occasionally and keep it in a low flame with closed lid for about 5 minutes.
Now you can see the oil coming out, switch off the flame.
Peas Poriyal ready.
