ஓமப்பொடி (Omapodi)
Omapodi is an easy to prepare snack and also a main ingredient for mixer. Ajwain is one of the main ingredients to prepare this recipe and ajwain has lot of health benefits. Now let us see how to prepare ஓம பொடி.
Ingredients for Omapodi
Besan flour – 3 cup
Rice flour – 1 cup
Butter – 2 tbsp
Ajwain – 1/2 tsp
Baking soda – pinch
Turmeric powder – 1/4 tsp
Salt as needed
Directions
Melt the butter in a small pan.
Smash the Ajwain in mortar.
Take all the dry ingredients in a mixing bowl.
Mix well then add the melted butter.
Knead the flour into smooth dough.
Make the dough into cylindrical shape and fill it in the murukku press with omappodi achu.
Heat oil in a shallow pan and add the oma podi shaped dough directly.
Keep the flame medium low.
Flip the oma podi after a minute, take out when the bubbles stop.
Follow the same steps for the remaining dough.
Smash the omappodi with hands and store that in an airtight container.
Notes
Don’t keep the flame high, keep it in medium or medium low.
Oma podi is very thin, so be watchful of the color change when frying.
Keep the dough with lid closed to maintain consistency.
