பாசி பருப்பு பாயாசம் (Moong Dal Paayasam)
Moong Dal Paayasam / பாசி பருப்பு பாயாசம் is very famous paayasam from Kerala that can be easily prepared in 15 minutes time. This recipe is one of the main food in Onam festival. is explained with easy to follow instructions and pictures.
Ingredients for Moong Dal Paayasam
Moong Dal – 1/2 cup
Jaggery – 1 cup (Crushed)
Coconut Milk – 1 cup
Kalkandu (Sugar Crystals) – 1/4 cup
Shredded Coconut – 2 tbs
Cashews – 1 tbs
Dry Grapes – 1 tbs
Ghee – 2 tbs + 1 tsp
Cardamom – 3
Directions
Soak moong dal in water for 30 – 45 minutes.
Wash the moong dal and cook in a pan until mushy.
Add crushed jaggery and crushed kalkandu.
Give a good mix and allow the crushed jaggery & kalkandu to melt.
Now add the 2 tbsp ghee and shredded coconut.
Take a small pan and add 1 tsp ghee, then fry cashews and dry grapes in low flame.
Add fried cashews and dry grapes in the payaasam.
Pour the coconut milk and mix the payasam well.
After 2 minutes switch off the flame and add crushed cardamom and give a final mix.
Serve the paayaasam in a bowl.
Notes
Use tall pot for boiling moong dal, so that the bubbles stays in the pot.
Replace kalkandu with additional 1/4 cup jaggery.
Shred the coconut in mixie for better results.
After adding coconut milk, don’t boil too much.
