கடலை பருப்பு வாழைக்காய் குழம்பு (Kadalaparuppu Vazhakkai Kuzhambu)
Kadalaparuppu Vazhakkai Kuzhambu is one of my favorite recipe for rice. Valakkai has lot of health benefits and kadalai paruppu is good source of protein, this recipe becomes a healthy choice. I used modified version of my mom’s recipe and it comes out very well every time.
Ingredients for Kadalaparuppu Vazhakkai Kuzhambu
Channa dal (Kadala paruppu) – 50 gm (1/2 cup)
Plantain (Valakkai) – 1
Masala – 1 1/2 tbs
Turmeric – 1 pinch
Curry leaves – 1 spring
Small onion – 15 chopped
Coconut – 1 big piece
Mustard seeds & urad dal
Oil – 2 tbsp
Salt as needed
Directions
Wash the dal and take it in a pressure cooker.
Add salt, turmeric, hing , 1 cup of water and a drop of oil.
Pressure cook the dal for 8 whistle in medium flame.
Take a pan with oil and temper the spices (curry leaves, mustard seeds & urad dal).
Now add the chopped onion and stir until golden color.
Then add the sliced plantain, masala and salt.
Mix everything until the masala is well coated and let it stay in low flame for 2 minutes.
Grind the coconut into fine paste.
Add this mixer and coconut paste to the pressure cooker with dal.
Also add one cup of water and stir the curry well and adjust the salt level.
Pressure cook this curry in medium flame for one whistle.
Serve kadalai paruppu valaikkai kulambu for chappathi or rice.
Notes
If you like more spiciness, add little bit of chilli powder
