Crab Gravy

நண்டு குழம்பு (Crab Gravy)

Crab gravy is easy to cook but many does not try this because of the cleaning process. Here I explain simple and easy way to clean crab and cook a delicious gravy. In villages, this gravy is suggested for cold and it works well and gives good relief.

Ingredients for Crab Gravy

For Grinding (Ground Masala):

Red chilli – 8
Cumin seeds – 2 tsp
Sombu – 2 tsp
Coriander seeds – 3 tsp
Pepper – 3 tsp
Shredded Coconut – 1/2 cup

For Frying:

Nandu -1
Ginger garlic paste – 3 tbsp
Small Onion chopped – 1 cup
Tomato – 2 small
Chilli powder – 1/4 tsp
Turmeric – 1/2 tsp
Salt – as needed
Coconut oil – 1/4 cup
Curry leaves – 1 spring
Red chilli – 4
Cumin seeds – 1 tsp
Sombu – 1 tsp

Cleaning நண்டு:

Cleaning is a very important process in cooking nandu kuzhambu.

Cut Crab into 4 pieces.
If there is anything need to be removed (mucus type in center) take that out and place the cut crab in a basin and add water.
Clean thoroughly and place it into another bowl.
Wash 2 times in regular water and wash 2 times with turmeric added water.
Make few holes in the crab to let the juice get inside the shell while cooking.

Directions:

Take a pan with coconut oil; Add cumin and sombu.
Also add chopped onion and fry until it turns into golden brown.
Add ginger garlic paste and after couple of minutes add chopped tomatoes and salt.
Once onion turns golden brown, add turmeric, ground masala, cleaned crab, water and mix well.
Allow this mixer to boil with lid open for 15 mins.
Turn the flame to sim and keep it for 5 mins with lid open.
Garnish with cilantro and add some lemon juice (optional).
Nandu Kulambu ready
