சிக்கன் மோமோஸ் – Chicken Momo
Chicken Momo is made using minced chicken. The word momo is derived from the Tibetian term ‘mog mog’ meaning food that is related to flour. Momo is a North Eastern recipe and popular in Tibet as well. Chicken mince with veggies are stuffed inside a thin layer flour dough filling and then steamed. Momos are usually steamed but can also be pan fried or deep fried and can be eaten with soup. They are usually served with spicy chilli garlic chutney.
Ingredients for Chicken Momo
Chicken – 1/4 kg
Flour – 1.5 cups
Oil – 2 tbs
Onion – 1/2 cup (minced)
Carrot – 1/2 cup (minced)
Cabbage – 1/2 cup (minced)
Cilantro – 1 tbs
Chilli powder – 1/2 tsp
Garlic – 1 tsp (minced)
Ginger – 1 tsp (minced)
Pepper – 1/4 tsp
Salt as needed
Directions
Dough Preparation
Add the flour and salt in a mixing bowl and then start kneading.
After mixing well, add water little by little and continue kneading until you get soft dough.
Cover the dough and let it sit until our preparations.
Filling
Clean the chicken and grind it in blender.
Add the ground chicken in a bowl.
Now add all the chopped veggies (onion, carrot, cabbage).
Also add the spices (chilli powder, pepper), salt, oil and cilantro.
Mix everything well until they combined well.
Preparing Momo
Place the dough in a rolling surface.
Using the rolling pin to spread the dough into thin layer.
Cut the dough into small rounds as shown in the picture.
Take out the small rounds and add filling.
Fold the dough as shown in the picture.
Steaming Momo
Apply oil on the idly plates.
Arrange the momos in the plate.
Steam cook the momos for 15 minutes.
Chicken momos ready.
Serve the momos with chilli garlic chutney.
Tips
You may add some soy sauce in the filling for the flavor.
If you want more spicy, increase the quantity of chilli powder.
If you can’t fold it like the picture just close the sides using fingers, the taste won’t change.
