Bhatura

சோளா பூரி (Bhatura)

Bhatura is a famous Panjabi recipe, which is one of the favorite for my kids. So I decided to prepare this at home and it came out well in first try. It is an easy recipe to try at home even for the newcomers. Variations include aloo bhatoora (batura filled with potato) and paneer bhatoora (batura filled with cottage cheese).

Ingredients for Bhatura

To makes 8 Bhaturas:
All purpose flour – 2 cups + dusting
Rava (Sooji) – 2 tbsp
Active dry yeast – 2 tsp
Yogurt – 2 tbsp
Oil – 2 tbsp + frying
Warm water – 3/4 cup
Salt – 1 tsp
Sugar – 1 tsp

Directions

Add yeast to the warm water and let the yeast to activate for 10 minutes.
Take the all purpose flour in a big mixing bowl.
Add the dry ingredients – sooji, salt, sugar and mix well.
Now add other ingredients – yogurt, oil and mix well.
Pour the yeast activated warm water little by little and knead the dough until well mixed and smooth.
Cover the dough and let it rise for at least 3 hours in warm place.
Divide the dough into 8 equal portions.
Dust the dough with all purpose flour and roll it to round shape.
Slice the rolled dough into two or four parts if you have small frying pan.
Take a pan with oil for frying.
Fry the rolled dough one by one in both side.
Bhatura is ready, serve Bhatoora with channa masala (Punjabi Chole).
