சேப்பக்கிழங்கு வறுவல் (Cheppakilangu Fry)

Cheppakilangu Fry is one of the tastiest side dish because it is deep fried and added with coconut masala. Everyone in my family likes this recipe. This recipe takes time to cook because of the multiple steps involved. Scroll down for the step by step WRITTEN pictorial recipe and here is a video for you.

Ingredients for Cheppakilangu Fry

Cheppankilangu – 250grm
Small onions – 8
Coconut milk – 1/2 cup
Masala – 1 tbsp
Mustard seeds & Urad dal – 1/4 tsp
Curry leaves – 1 spring
Oil – 1 tbs
Turmeric powder – pinch
Salt as needed

Directions

Boil the cheppankilangu with salt (10-15 minutes).
Peel the skin off the kilangu.
Slice the kilangu like french fries (see pic) and fry it completely in oil.
Take a pan and pour a tablespoon of oil, then add mustard seeds, urad dal.
After mustard cracks, add curry leaves, then add onion.
Fry until onion becomes golden brown, then pour the coconut milk, masala, turmeric and salt.
Let the mixer boil in high flame for few minutes then add the cheppankilangu fries.
Cover the pan and cook in medium flame until the mixer reaches thick consistency.
Now reduce the flame into low and wait for oil to come out.

Note

Half cook the kilangu for best results.
You can have the fries as it is for a snack as well.
