Chappathi

சப்பாத்தி (Chappathi / Roti / Paratha)

Chappathi is all time favorite for my hubby. Also my kids only finish their lunch box when I give chappathi. In starting days, I struggled a lot to find correct way of kneading the dough. Gradually I learned some tricks and now I always get perfect result every time. Knead the dough very soft and spread the dough not so thick to get soft chapathi.

Ingredients for Chappathi

Wheat flour – 2 cups
Oil – 1 tbsp + 2 tbsp
Salt as needed

Directions

Prepare Dough

Take flour in a big mixing bowl and add salt.
Heat 1 tbsp oil in a pan and pour it into the flour.
Warm some water then add little by little to flour and start mixing.
Knead the dough for 5 minutes.
Split the dough into equal size balls (around 14-15).
Dust the ball in the flour and roll into round size patties.

Prepare Chappathi

Heat the dosa pan then place the rolled dough in the pan.
When you bubbles turn the chapathi into other side.
Take 2 tablespoons of oil in a bowl with brush.
Dip the brush in the oil and apply that over the chappathi.
Flip once again and apply oil on the other side.
Now flip it again, when both side get color change take roti out.
Chapathi ready.
Follow the same directions for the remaining dough.
Serve chapathi with any veg gravy or non-veg gravy.

Prepare Ghee Chappathi

When you want to prepare ghee chapathi, you may alternate oil with ghee when kneading the dough.
You may cook the chapathi without applying oil and take out then immediately apply some ghee.
Don’t apply ghee while cooking as it will produce more smoke.

Prepare Paratha (triangle chappathi)

Roll the dough into small round then fold the dough as shown in the picture.
Then spread again into triangle shape.
Follow the same directions given for chapathi to make this type as well.

Notes

I used whole wheat flour, which is healthy and avoid using refined flour because it is not healthy.
